Investment in people can help address Ja's social and economic issues

Keith Duncan, President of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) and co-chair of Project STAR, spoke at the Global Leadership Summit on 17 November 2022 and suggested that investing in Jamaica's people through inclusiveness, collaboration and a shared vision could help solve the country's economic and social issues. He said that only through investment in communities and people can Jamaica achieve an inclusive, equitable, sustainable and prosperous society. Duncan highlighted the PSOJ's initiative, Project STAR, which aims to solve the country's problems at the community level by unearthing the potential of the people. A significant pillar of Project STAR is an economic transformation where the private sector provides jobs for members of targeted communities that have high levels of unemployment. Through social and economic transformation initiatives undertaken by Project STAR, Duncan hopes to create safer, secure, and more prosperous communities, which will translate into a sustainable reduction in violence and crime.
